Nathan Cross

For Nathan, buying all materials for projects, including those the subs use, ensures a smoother production process.

March 28, 2016
Nathan Cross, President at NWC Construction, in Sarasota & Orlando, Fla., 2016 Professional Remodeler 40 Under 40 awardee

President

NWC Construction, Sarasota & Orlando, Fla.

Age 38

2015 Revenue: $3.5 million

Best practice: In the past, Nathan had problems with subcontractors being pulled onto different jobs, so now he’s willing to pay a premium to make sure his projects are completed correctly and on time. He also controls all materials for a project. Occasionally he runs into a tradesperson unwilling to work with this approach, but most of the time it hasn’t been a problem. Nathan’s system also helps the company control payments, so NWC doesn’t “get slapped with a materials lien down the road,” he explains. And there’s another benefit, he says: “Five years from now, if a homeowner has a problem—say their baseboard got ruined—we know exactly what they have in their home. I’m less confident that the subs will keep the proper paperwork.”
