Team BUILD wrote an open letter to building departments about how excessive permit requirements and corrections shift the focus from solving problems to gaming the process.
The team offered a list of the five biggest building permit obstructions as well as possible solutions to each of them. One of the solutions is to drop requirements for plan approval by a licensed engineer if the project already complies with regulations. Other solutions to problems involve eliminating overlapping liability, and setting straight-forward percentages for permitting fees.
