Safety: Serious Injuries Result From Failure to Follow OSHA Fall Protection Standards

Mark Paskell from The Contracting Coaching Partnership shares stories about recent accidents involving workers on roofs.

According to Paskell, some contractors are being asked to shut down job sites if there are not fall protections in place. Additionally, child labor laws prohibit individuals under the age of 18 from roof work.

 

In one instance, a teenager fell 30 feet through a skylight opening while working on a roof in Canton, Mass., who a roof. The boy was underage (child labor laws prohibit individuals under the age of 18 from roof work), and not properly trained or protected by his employer. Despite hitting a coat rack that pierced his abdomen and caused colon and appendix damage, the boy survived.

 

And the weather in New England has increased roof falls as more people are having to remove snow from job sites.
