Ideas to Live By: In the past couple of decades there have been a lot of innovations around tightening up homes, but what I’ve learned is that “with great power comes great responsibility.” When you tighten up a house you can’t just spray foam on everything, put in efficient windows, and think you’re good to go. You will create other problems unless you know what you’re doing. Unfortunately, the innovations in our industry have moved faster than the construction knowledge. In order to stay up to date, you have to constantly pay attention to building science and case studies. I’ve also become much more aware of using environmentally friendly products whenever possible. It’s important for the ecosystem, and my clients like it.
